An important part of healthcare is dental care as well, through the Foundation’s Dental Health program we aim to bring awareness among the indigenous people on good oral and dental hygiene, so they come to understand this can help prevent bad breath, tooth decay and gum disease and to realize how their dental care is also a connection to their overall health.
Objectives:
- Provide dental services of high quality and of easy access to everyone that needs a service, with emphasis on population, preschool and school children and pregnant women.
- Decrease the incidence of oral disease through the Health Program for the Schools through activities such as application of fluoride for weekly 1000 children, educational talks focused on prevention of caries, and pit and fissure sealants.
- To promote dental health through concrete actions to establish lifestyle changes, and healthy life.
- Sensitize the population on hygiene measures to ensure the health of the mouth.
The Challenge:
- To promote the culture of prevention and not of cure.
- To instill everyday brushing.
What we achieved:
- Implement a dental clinic with the highest standards of care with materials and equipment of high quality.
- Dental care to people of rural communities.
- Promotion of oral health to 1000 children on a weekly basis.
Operations of the clinic:
- Care from 7:00 – 16:00 hrs. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.
- Fluoride application to schools on Wednesday.
- Services of extraction, fillings, removal of decay, cleanings, X-rays, among others.
Impact on the community:
- Decrease the prevalence of periodontal diseases and dental in the school population in a 30 – 40%.
